For my surrealist bust project, I wanted to create a dollhouse. I was inspired to make a dollhouse when I saw a Barbie commercial on TV. To make the bust, we started out by molding clay around a paper ball. Then, we gradually added clay to it, forming the facial features. I cut out the eyes and the back side of the head, to make a window. Then, I built up the shoulders and also created levels for the interior of the head. Next, I set it aside to dry so that I could carve. I carved a brick pattern all around the bust. When it came out of the kiln, I used underglaze, acrylic paint, and metallic stains to achieve the brick-like facade. Finally, I couldn't find furniture small enough for the house, so I just added toys in the head. I really love the way my bust came out so, I am satisfied with the end product.
